"I Want To Be Where You Are" is a song written by Arthur "T-Boy" Ross and Leon Ware for Michael Jackson, who took the song to number 7 on Cash Box and number 16 on the chart Billboard Hot 100. It also reached number 2 on the US singles chart R & amp; B in 1972. Top 10 Pop hit all three during his first solo career with Motown. It was also the first collaboration between Ware and Ross, the sister of legendary superstar Diana Ross. The song will be one of Jackson's most covered songs, by singers including Zulema, Marvin Gaye, Willie Hutch, Jason Weaver and then The Fugees. Ware and Ross also wrote Marvin Gaye's classic, "I Want You" a few years later.

  • While Willie Hutch's version opens its 1973 album Fully Exposed , Zulema has a dance song with a disco version of the song in 1974, featured on her debut RCA album Zulema (1975). In 1976 Marvin Gaye's cover was more of an instrumental quote for her singing the title and dedicating tracks to her boyfriend Janis Hunter and her sons Marvin III (referred to as "Little Marvin" on the record), Miss and Frankie Christian. The alternative instrument, which was later released on the re-release of the 2003 deluxe edition of the I Want You album, is a funk-style instrumental featuring Gaye's harmonious background vocals throughout the track, also produced by Ware.. In 1993, Weaver's cover was followed, and then the Fugees version was completely different except the chorus sung by Lauryn Hill.
  • Juelz Santana sampled the song on two songs, "U Miss Me pts.1 & amp; 2", in DJ Green Lantern mixtape Life on Arrival .

    • Carleen Anderson performed the song as a duet with Paul Weller on his 2005 album Soul Providence .
    • The Hutch version was sampled by singer Mary J. Blige for her song "You Can not Hide from Luv" from her album .
    • Jennifer Lopez sampled the song in her song "Gotta Be There", included in her 2007 album Brave .
    • Murs took samples of the song for "Can It Be" on her 2008 Murs For President album.
    • In July 2009, rapper 50 Cent enlivened instrumental vocals and left Jackson. The song titled "Michael Jackson Freestyle" was released on his mixtape Forever King .
    • Q "The Kid" sampled Michael Jackson's song "Been Away", featuring Jermaine Dupri, and appeared on the drumline soundtrack.

    Recording artist R & amp; B America, Beyoncà ©  © Knowles, covered the song during the 2009 revue show I Am... Yours, which was held four nights in a row in July and August. It was then included on his live CD/DVD I Am... Yours: An Intimate Performance at Wynn Las Vegas , which contains performances from revue shows.
