Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958 - April 21, 2016) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and filmmaker.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince is known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presentations, fancy fashion sense, and use of makeup, as well as extensive vocal ranges. Prince is also a multi-instrumentalist; considered a guitar virtuoso, he is also skilled at playing drums, percussion, bass, keyboards, and synthesizers. Innovative music integrates styles, including funk, rock, R & amp; B, new wave, soul, psychedelia, and pop. He sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She won eight Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award for the 1984 film Purple Rain . She was sworn in to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
Prince developed an interest in music as a young boy and wrote his first song at the age of seven. She signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 17, and released her debut album For You in 1978. Prince's parents divorced when he was 10 years old, and his mother remarried with Hayward Baker, with whom he had a son named Omarr; Prince has a troubled relationship with Baker, causing him to change houses, sometimes living with his father and sometimes with his mother and stepfather. Baker brought the Prince to see James Brown's concert, and Prince credited Baker with improving family finances. In 1975, Pepe Willie, the husband of Prince Shauntel's cousin, formed the 94 East band with Marcy Ingvoldstad and Kristie Lazenberry, recruiting AndrÃÆ'Â © Cymone and Prince to record the song. Willie wrote her songs, and Prince donated guitar songs, and Prince and Willie co-wrote East 94's song, "Just Another Sucker". In 1976, Prince made a demo recording with producer Chris Moon, in Moon's Minneapolis studio. Unable to secure a record deal, Moon brought the tape to Owen Husney, a Minneapolis businessman, who signed Prince, age 17, for a management contract, and helped him make a demo at Sound 80 Studios in Minneapolis (with producer/engineer David Z). Demo tapes, together with press tools produced at Husney's advertising agency, generated interest from several record companies including Warner Bros.. Records, A & amp; M Records, and Columbia Records.
With the help of Husney, Prince signed a recording contract with Warner Bros.. The record company agreed to give the creative control Prince to three albums and publishing rights. Husney and Prince then left Minneapolis and moved to Sausalito, California, where Prince's first album, For You , was recorded at Record Plant Studios. The album was mixed in Los Angeles and was released on April 7, 1978. Their first show was at the Capri Theater on January 5, 1979. Warner Bros. executives attended the show but decided that the Prince and the band needed more time to develop his music. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard album chart 200. The first single, "Sign o 'the Times", is mapped in No. 3 on Hot 100. Single follow-up, "If I Was Your Girlfriend", mapped in No. 67 on the Hot 100 but go to No. 12 on the R & amp chart B. Prince released the Crystal Ball , a collection of five CDs of unreleased material, in 1998. During this time, Prince seeks to engage more effectively with his fan base through the NPG Music Club, pre-concert sound proofing, and at the annual "celebration" at Paisley Park, his music studio. Fans were invited to the studio for tours, interviews, discussions, and music listening sessions. Some of these fan discussions were filmed for an unreleased documentary, directed by Kevin Smith.
On February 8, 2004, Prince appeared at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards with Beyonce. In the show that opened the show, they performed the medley "Purple Rain", "Let's Go Crazy", "Baby I'm a Star", and BeyoncÃÆ' © "Crazy in Love". The following month, Prince is appointed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The award was presented to him by Alicia Keys along with Big Boi and Andrà © 3000 of OutKast. As well as trio hits himself during the ceremony, Prince also participates in tribute to fellow inductee George Harrison in the translation of Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", playing a two-minute solo guitar that ended the song. He also performed the song "Red House" as "Purple House" on the album Power of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix .
In April 2004, Prince released Musicology through an album deal with Columbia Records. The album rose as high as top five on several international charts (including US, UK, Germany, and Australia). The success of the US charts was aided by the CDs that were included as part of concert ticket purchases, so the qualification of each CD (as a graphic rule then stands) to calculate toward US graph placement. Three months later, Spin named it the greatest frontman of all time. That same year, the Rolling Stone magazine named Prince as the highest earning musician in the world, with annual revenues of $ 56.5 million, mostly due to its Musicology Tour, which Pollstar named as the top concert draw in between musicians in the US. He played 96 concerts; the average ticket price for a show is US $ 61 (equivalent to $ 79 in 2017). Musicology went on to receive two Grammy wins, for Best Male R & amp; B Vocal Performance for "Call My Name" and Best Traditional R & amp; B Vocal Performance for song title. Musicology was also nominated for Best R & amp; B Song and Best R & amp; B Album, and "Cinnamon Girl" was nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Appearance. Rolling Stone put Prince No. 27 in the list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
In April 2005, Prince played the guitar (along with En Vogue sings the vocalist) at Stevie Wonder's sole single "So What the Fuss" since 1999.
At the end of 2005, Prince signed a contract with Universal Records to release his album, <3121 , on March 21, 2006. The first single was "Te Amo CorazÃÆ'³n", a video directed by actress Salma Hayek and filmed in Marrakech, Morocco , featuring Argentine actress and singer MÃÆ' Maestro. The video for the second single, "Black Sweat", was nominated on MTV VMAs for Best Cinematography. The immediate success of 3121 gave the debut Prince No. 1 on Billboard 200 with the album.
To promote the new album, Prince is a music guest on Saturday Night Live on February 4, 2006, 17 years after the last appearance of SNL on his 15th birthday, and nearly 25 years since his appearance first in regular episodes in 1981.
At the 2006 Webby Awards on June 12, Prince received the Webby Lifetime Award in recognition of "the visionary use of the Internet to distribute music and connect with viewers," exemplified by his decision to release his album Crystal Ball (1998 ) exclusively online.
In July 2006, a few weeks after winning Webby Award, Prince closed his NPG Music Club website, after more than five years of operation. On the closing day of the music club, a lawsuit was filed against the Prince by a British company HM Publishing (owner of Nature Publishing Group, also NPG). Although this incident happened on the same day, the Prince's lawyer stated that the site was not closed due to a trademark dispute.
The prince appeared at several awards ceremonies in 2006: on February 15, he performed at the 2006 Brit Awards, along with Wendy & Lisa and Sheila E., and on June 27, Prince performed at the BET Awards 2006, where he was awarded the Best Male B & R Artist. In November 2006, Prince was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame; he appears to collect his award but does not perform. Also in November 2006, Prince opened a nightclub named 3121, in Las Vegas at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. He appeared weekly on Friday and Saturday evenings until April 2007, when his contract with Rio ended. On August 22, 2006, Prince released Ultimate Prince . Double-disc set includes one CD of previous hit, and one of the additional versions and mixes of materials, mostly previously only available on vinyl record B-sides. In the same year, Prince wrote and performed a song for the hit animated film Happy Feet (2006). The song, "The Song of the Heart", appeared on the soundtrack to the film, which also featured a cover song Prince before "Kiss", sung by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. In January 2007, "The Song of the Heart" won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
2007-2010: Super Bowl XLI, < i> Planet Earth and Lotusflower
On February 2, 2007, Prince played at the Super Bowl XLI press conference, and the Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show in Miami, Florida on February 4, 2007, on a big stage shaped like a badge. The event was brought to 140 million television viewers, its largest audience. By 2015, Billboard.com ranks the performance as the biggest Super Bowl performance ever.
Prince played 21 concerts in London during mid-2007. The Earth tour included 21 nights at the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena, with Maceo Parker in his band. Tickets for the O2 Arena are limited by Prince at £ 31.21 ($ 48.66). The residency at the O2 Arena increased to 15 nights after all 140,000 tickets for seven sold out in 20 minutes. It was then extended to 21 nights.
Prince performed with Sheila E. at the ALMA Awards 2007. On June 28, 2007, Mail on Sunday stated that they had made a deal to give Prince's new album, Planet Earth, free with paper, making it the first place in the world to get an album. The move sparked controversy among music distributors and also led the arm of Prince's distributor, Sony BMG, to withdraw from distributing albums in British stores. UK's largest street music retailer, HMV, printed the paper on the day of release for the grant. On July 7, 2007, Prince returned to Minneapolis to perform three shows. She performed a concert at Macy's Auditorium (to promote her new perfume "3121") at Nicollet Mall, Target Center arena, and First Avenue. This is the first time he has played on First Avenue (the club has appeared in the movie Purple Rain since 1987).
From 2008, Prince is managed by Kiran Sharma based in the UK. On April 25, 2008, Prince appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where he debuted a new song, "Turn Me Loose". A few days later, he became headlines at the Coachella Festival 2008. Prince paid more than $ 5 million for his performance in Coachella, according to Reuters. The prince canceled the concert, planned at Dublin Croke Park on June 16, 2008, at 10 days notice. In October 2009 promoter MCD Productions went to court to sue him for EUR1.6 million to refund 55,126 tickets. The Prince settled this case out of court in February 2010 for $ 2.95 million. Prince released a set of triple albums containing Lotusflower , MPLSoUND , and an album credited to Bria Valente, named Elixer , on March 24, 2009, followed by physical release on March 29th.
On July 18, 2009, Prince performed two shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival, powered by New Power Plants including Rhonda Smith, Renato Neto and John Blackwell. On October 11, 2009, he gave two surprise concerts at the Grand Palais. On October 12, he gave another surprise show at La Cigale. On October 24, Prince plays a concert at Paisley Park.
2010-2012: 20Ten and Welcoming the 2nd Derivation
In January 2010, Prince wrote a new song, "Purple and Gold", inspired by his visit to the Minnesota Vikings football game against the Dallas Cowboys. The following month, Prince lets a public radio station in the Minneapolis area, 89.3 The Current premier of his new song "Cause and Effect" as a gesture to support independent radio.
In 2010, Prince was listed in the annual ranking of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" magazine "at Time .
Prince released a new single on Minneapolis radio station 89.3 The Current called "Hot Summer" on June 7, his 52nd birthday. Also in June, the Prince appeared on the cover of July 2010 edition of Ebony, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 BET Awards.
Prince released his album 20Ten in July 2010 as a free covermount with publications in England, Belgium, Germany and France. He declined album access to digital download service and closed LotusFlow3r.com.
On July 4, 2010, Prince embarked on a 20Ten tour, a two-legged concert tour with performances in Europe. The second leg starts on October 15 and ends with a concert after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 14th. The second half of the tour has new bands, John Blackwell, Ida Kristine Nielsen, and Sheila E. Prince let Europe 1 debut. her new song piece "Rich Friends" from her new album 20Ten Deluxe on October 8, 2010. Prince started the 2nd Welcome Tour on December 15th, 2010.
Prince was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame on December 7, 2010.
On February 12, 2011, Prince presented Barbra Streisand with the award and donated $ 1.5 million to charity. On the same day, it was reported that she did not allow Glee's television show to cover her hit "Kiss", in an episode that had been filmed.
Prince presented the Hop Farm Festival on July 3, 2011, marking his first UK show since 2007 and his first appearance in England.
Despite having previously rejected the Internet for music distribution, on 24 November 2011, Prince released a reworked version of previously unreleased "Extraloveable" tracks via iTunes and Spotify. Purple Music, a record label based in Switzerland, released the CD single "Dance 4 Me" on December 12, 2011, as part of the club remix package including the Bria Valente single CD "2 Nite" which was released on February 23, 2012. The CD features remix clubs by Jamie Lewis and David Alexander, produced by Prince.
2013-2016: Return to Warner Bros, 3rdEyeGirl and HitNRun Last tour and year
In January 2013, Prince released a lyric video for a new song titled "Obeng". In April 2013, Prince announced a West Coast tour titled Live Out Loud Tour with 3rdeyegirl as his supporting band. The last two days of the first tour in Minneapolis were where former Revolutionary drummer Bobby Z. sat as a guest drummer on both shows. In May, Prince announced an agreement with Cobalt Music to market and distribute his music.
On August 14, 2013, Prince released a new solo single for download via the 3rdeyegirl.com website. The single "Breakfast Can Wait" has a cover art featuring comedian comedian Dave Chappelle in a sketch of the 2000's Comedy Central series Chappelle's Show .
In February 2014, Prince performed a concert with 3rdeyegirl in London entitled Hit and Run Tour. It started with an intimate event, first held at the home of the London singer Lianne La Havas, followed by two performances of what the Prince described as "sound proofing" at the Electrical Ballroom in Camden, and others at Shepherd's Bush Empire. On April 18, 2014, Prince released a new single titled "The Breakdown". He again signed a contract with his former label, Warner Bros. Records after the 18-year split. Warner announced that Prince will release a deluxe edition of his 1984 Purple Rain album in 2014 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album. In return, Warner gave Prince ownership of Warner's master recordings.
In February 2014 Prince started what he called the 'Hit N Run Part One' tour. This involves the Twitter followers of the Prince who continue to pay attention to second information per second regarding the whereabouts of the show. Many of these events will only be announced on the day of the concert, and many of these concerts involve two performances; matinees and night gigs. The event begins at Camden Electric Ballroom, billed as 'Soundchecks', and spreads throughout the British capital to KoKo Club, in Camden, Shepherd's Bush Empire and various other small places. After a date in London, he moved to other European cities.
In May 2014 Prince started the 'Hit N Run Part Two' event, which followed the style of online ticket purchases that were more normal, and held in the music arena.
In the spring of 2014, he launched NPG Publishing, a music company to manage his own music and other artists without restrictions on mainstream record companies.
In May 2015, after the death of Freddie Gray and subsequent unrest, Prince released a song titled "Baltimore" in honor of Gray and supported the demonstrators in Baltimore. He also held a tribute concert for Gray in a real Paisley Park called "Dance Rally 4 Peace" where he encouraged fans to wear gray in honor of Freddie Gray.
The second album of Prince, Hit n Run Phase One , was first available on September 7, 2015, in the Tidal music streaming service before it was released on CD and downloaded on September 14th. His final album, Hit n Run Phase Two , was intended as a continuation of this one, and was released on Tidal for streaming and downloading on December 12, 2015.
In February 2016, Prince started Piano & amp; A Microphone Tour, a tour that saw the show stripped back only to Prince and a custom piano on stage. He made a series of warm-ups at Paisley Park in late January 2016 and the tour began in Melbourne, Australia on February 16, 2016 for critical acclaim. Australian and New Zealand legs of the tour are played in small capacity venues including the Sydney Opera House. Hit n Run Phase Two The CD is distributed to each participant after each performance. The tour continued into the United States but was cut suddenly due to illness in April 2016.
Disease and death
The prince saw Michael T. Schulenberg, Twin Cities specialist in family medicine, at Excelsior on April 7, 2016, and again on April 20th. On April 7, Prince delayed two shows at Fox Theater in Atlanta from Piano & amp; Microphone Tour; where it released a statement saying he had influenza. The prince is rescheduled and performs on April 14th, although he still feels unwell. When flying back to Minneapolis the next morning, he became unresponsive, and his private jet made an emergency landing at Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois, where he was hospitalized and accepted Narcan. Once he became aware he left medical advice. The representative said he suffered from dehydration and had influenza for several weeks. The prince was seen cycling the next day at his hometown in Chanhassen. He shopped that night at Electric Fetus in Minneapolis for Record Store Day and made a brief appearance at a spontaneous dance party at his Paisley Park recording studio complex, stating that he felt fine. On April 19, he attended the show by singer Lizz Wright at the Dakota Jazz Club.
On April 20, the Prince's representative telephoned Howard Kornfeld, a California specialist in addiction and pain management, seeking medical help for the Prince. Kornfeld is scheduled to meet the Prince on April 22, and he contacts a local doctor who cleans his schedule for a physical exam on April 21. On April 21 at 9:43 am, the Carver County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call asking for an ambulance to be sent to Prince's house in Paisley Park. The caller initially told the dispatcher that an unknown person at the house was unconscious, then moments later said he was dead, and finally identified the man as Prince. The caller was Kornfeld's son, who flew in with buprenorphine that morning to devise a treatment plan for opioid addiction. The emergency responder finds the Prince unresponsive in the elevator and performs CPR, but a paramedic says he has been dead for about six hours, and they can not revive him. They announced he died at 10:07 am, 19 minutes after their arrival. There are no signs of suicide or dirty game. A press release from the Midwest Medical Supervisory Office in Anoka County on June 2 stated that Prince had died of an accidental fentanyl overdose, at the age of 57 years.
It is not known whether the Prince obtained fentanyl with a prescription or through a forbidden channel. The question of how and from which source the Prince obtained the drug that caused his death has been the subject of investigation by some law enforcement agencies. A sealed search warrant was issued for his inheritance, and another, unsealed, order issued to a local Walgreens pharmacy. On April 19, 2018, Carver County Lawyers announced that a multi-agency investigation related to the death of the Prince had ended without any criminal charges.
After the autopsy, his body was cremated. On April 26, 2016, the sister of the Prince and her sister Tyka Nelson filed a court document in Carver County to open a probate case, stating that no will was found. The Prince's five half-brothers also have claims over his land, which totals millions of dollars and includes real estate, stocks, and cars. Until three weeks after his death, 700 people claimed to be half-siblings or descendants. Bremer Trust was given temporary control over his property, the dome was drilled open, and authorized to obtain blood samples for DNA profiles.
The Prince Ash is placed into a jar, custom 3D mold shaped like a real Paisley Park. The jar was on display at the atrium of the Paisley Park complex in October 2016.
Remembrances
Many musicians and cultural figures react to the Prince's death. President Barack Obama mourns for him, and the United States Senate passed a resolution praising his achievements "as a musician, composer, innovator, and cultural icon". Cities across the United States hold tribute and vigilance, and light up buildings, bridges, and other places in violet. In the first five hours after the media reported his death, "Prince" was the most popular term on Twitter, and Facebook has 61 million interactions related to Prince. MTV interrupted its program to broadcast the marathon of Prince's music videos and Purple Rain . AMC Theaters and Carmike Cinemas filtered out Purple Rain in selected theaters over the following week. Saturday Night Live airs an episode in his honor titled "Goodnight, Sweet Prince", featuring his performance from the show.
Nielsen Music reported a surge in initial sales of 42,000 percent. Prince's catalog sells 4.41 million albums and songs from April 21-28, with five albums simultaneously in the top ten of the Billboard 200, the first in the history of the chart. At the 59th Grammy Awards, Morris Day with Time and Bruno Mars paid tribute to him.

Posthumous project
Prince is posthumously appointed into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame.
The first album released after Prince's death was the biggest hits album, 4Ever , released on November 22, 2016. The album contains one previously unreleased song: "Moonbeam Levels", recorded in 1982 for < i> 1999 session.
On April 19, 2017, an EP featured six unreleased Prince recordings, titled Deliverance , announced, with the expected release date for later that week. The next day, the Prince's treasures were given temporary restraining orders against George Ian Boxill - an engineer who co-produced the song and had a master cassette - and stopped the launch of the EP.
On February 9, 2017, the prince estate signed a distribution deal with Universal Music Group, which included post-1995 recordings on the NPG Records label and an unreleased track from its safe. On 27 June, Comerica (acting on behalf of the estate) asks Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide to cancel a real deal with Universal, as the UMG contract will disrupt the contract with Warner Music Group signed by the Prince in 2014. After the Universal lawyer granted access to the contract Warner, the lawyers also offered to cancel the deal. On July 13, the court overturned Universal's deal with the Prince's estate, although Universal will continue to regulate the Prince's song credit and create merchandise.
On June 23, 2017, Purple Rain was re-released as Deluxe and Deluxe Expanded edition. This is the first Prince album to be remastered and reissued. The Deluxe edition consists of two discs, the first being a remaster of the original album created in 2015 supervised by the Prince himself and a bonus disc of previously unreleased songs, called From Vault & amp; Previously unreleased . The Expanded Deluxe edition consists of two more discs, discs with all single edits, single-maxi edits and Purple Rain's <-1ides, and a DVD with a concert from Rain Purple Tour was filmed in Syracuse, New York on March 30, 1985, which was previously released on home video in 1985. The album debuted at No. 1. 4 on Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on both Billboard R & amp; B Vinyl Album and Album.
On April 19, 2018, the previously unreleased original "Nothing Compares 2 U" record from 1984 was released as a single by Warner Bros.. Records in conjunction with the Prince's treasures. In addition, the Prince's version was given its own music video, released simultaneously with singles; the video consisted of an edited exercise footage for the Purple Rain tour, taken in the summer of 1984. Troy Carter, a counselor for real Prince, then announced in an interview with Variety that a full-length album planned to be released on September 28, 2018.
In May 2018, it was announced that a second album of new material will be released in 2019 in Tidal. The album is rumored to be planned by Prince for Hit n Run Stage Two , as part of the original deal with the streaming service. It has also been announced for the worldwide release of physical CDs a month later.
In June 2018, Prince estate signed a distribution deal with Sony Music Entertainment, which included the rights to all Prince's studio albums, plus unreleased music, remixes, live recordings, music videos and B-sides from before 1995. Agreements will soon include Prince's album from 1995 to 2010. Beginning in 2021, Prince Warner Bros.'s 1978-1996 album will be distributed by Sony/Legacy Recordings in the United States, with Warner Music Group still controlling international rights.

The Los Angeles Times called Prince "our first post-first pop star, against the easy categories of race, genre and commercial appeal." Jon Pareles of The New York Times describes him as "the ultimate architect of funk, rock, R & B and pop," and highlights his ability to oppose the label. Los Angeles Times Writer Randall Roberts calls the Prince "among the most flexible and reckless experimental pop artists of the moment," writes that "his early work on disco and synthetic funk [as he] , soul, R & B, and synth-pop. "Simon Reynolds calls it" pop polymath, hovering between funkadelia, acid rock, deep soul, schmaltz - often in the same song ". AllMusic writes that, "With every album he releases, the Prince shows remarkable growth styles and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres [...] no other contemporary artists that combine so much diverse styles into a cohesive whole. " Rolling Stone placed Prince at number 27 on the list of 100 Greatest Artists, "the most influential artist of the rock & roll era".
As a player, he is known for his flamboyant style and showmanship. He is then regarded as a sex symbol for his sexuality, amorphous sexuality, playing with gender markers, and opposing racial stereotypes. Prince's music synthesizes influences, and gets inspired by various musicians, including James Brown, George Clinton, Joni Mitchell, Duke Ellington, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Earth, Wind & amp; Fire, Mick Jagger, Rick James, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Curtis Mayfield, Elvis Presley, Todd Rundgren, Carlos Santana, Sly Stone, Jackie Wilson, Chicago and Stevie Wonder. Prince has been compared to the great jazz of Miles Davis in connection with the artistic changes throughout his career. Davis says he regards the Prince as a mixture of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Sly Stone, Richard Little, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Chaplin. Prince and Miles Davis perform together for Charity Events at Paisley Park. This performance is seen as the culmination of their once-again and again partnership.
