Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga , KLD (born February 22, 1971), known as Lea Salonga ( ), is a Filipino singer and actress famous for her role in musical theater, to supply the singing voices of two Princess Disney, and as a recording artist and television player.
At the age of 18, she started Kim's lead role in Miss Saigon's musical, first in the West End and later on Broadway, winning the Olivier and Theater World Awards, becoming the first Asian woman to win the Tony Award. Salonga was the first Filipino artist to sign a contract with an international record label (Atlantic Records in 1993). He is also the first Filipino-based artist to have received major album releases and distribution deals in the United States, and one of the best-selling Filipino artists of all time, having sold over 19 million copies of his album worldwide.
Salonga is the first Asian-born actress to play the role of ÃÆ' â € ° ponine and Fantine in the musical Les MisÃÆ' Â © rables on Broadway. She also plays ÃÆ'â € ° ponine and Fantine, respectively, in the 10th and 25th anniversary concerts of the musical in London. During 1980, Salonga also had several television projects through GMA Radio Television Arts where she worked as a child actor and teen idol. Following the success of his first album, from 1983 to 1985, he hosted his own music show, Love, Lea and was a member of the German teen variety show Moreno That Is Entertainment She's acting in a movie, which belongs to a family oriented Trophy Bulilit , Like Dad, Like a Child , Ninja Children , Captain Barbell and Pik Pak Boom . He also attended the University of the Philippines College of Music extension program which aims to train children who have musical talent in music and stage movements. A freshman studying biology at Ateneo de Manila University when he auditioned for Miss Saigon, he intended to have a medical career. Then, between jobs in New York, he took two courses at Fordham University's Lincoln Center.
1989-1992: Miss Saigon and Aladdin
In 1989 Salonga was chosen to play Kim in the musical debut of Miss Saigon in London. Unable to find a pretty strong East Asian actress/singer in the UK, producers are exploring many countries in search of a leading role. On January 10, 2004, Salonga married Robert Charles Chien, a Chinese-Japanese managing director of entertainment software company in Los Angeles, California, whom he met while performing Flower Drum Song . They have a daughter, Nicole Beverly Chien, born in 2006, named after Salonga's mother-in-law, Beverly. He is also a fan of video games that are very fond, and have mentioned his love for hobbies in some of his print articles. He lives in the Philippines and the United States.
On 15 October 2010, Salonga was appointed as the Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
