Legend is a compilation album by Bob Marley and The Wailers. It was released in May 1984 by Island Records, the BMW 1 catalog in the United Kingdom and 90169-1 in the United States. This is basically the biggest hit collection of singles in its original vinyl format, and is the best-selling reggae album of all time, with over 15 million copies sold in the United States and around 28 million copies sold globally. By December 2017, it has spent a total of 500 weeks in a row on the Billboard album chart 200 - the second longest running record in history. According to the September 20, 2014 edition of Billboard 200, nearly 56,000 albums have been sold since several previous editions, bringing the new album peak to # 5 on the chart (especially as Google Play costs 99 cents). Currently, the album sells about 3,000 to 5,000 US copies per week.

The album contained all ten Top 40 Marley hit singles in the UK up to that time, plus three songs from the original Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and "Wake Up, Stand Up," along with cover songs of the Uprising album, Redemption Song. Marley enjoys fewer graphic hits in the United States, "Exodus," "Waiting in Vain," "Could You Be Loved" and "Buffalo Soldier "the only one included in this collection. From the original song, only four dates from before the album Exodus .
The release of this album's cassette features two additional songs, "Punky Reggae Party," B-side to single "Jamming", and "Easy Skanking" from the album Rich . Second generation compact disc remake by Barry Diament appeared in 1990 on the Tuff Gong label. Although the disk covers the same 14 tracks, the tracks are within their original album length rather than the edited version for a single release.
On February 12, 2002, an expanded 14th edition of songs with album lengths were remixed for compact discs with bonus discs consisting of a 1984-vintage remix for club singles and an extended dance replacement version. In 2004, the deluxe double-disc edition of Legend was re-issued with a music DVD of the same name in the deluxe sound vision edition. In 2010, Legend was made available as downloadable content for Rock Band . However, it was released without "Get Up, Stand Up", which was later entered on Rock Band 3 . In June 2012, a high-fidelity audiophile version of the album was released on HDtracks at 96 kHz/24bit and 192 kHz/24bit resolutions.

When first released in the United States in 1984, the emphasis contained remixes "No Woman, No Cry," "Buffalo Soldier," "Waiting In Vain," "Exodus" and "Jammin", "performed in 1984 by Eric Thorngren. (International pressure replaced remixes for an album version or 7 "edits.) Two versions of the CD were released in Europe in 1984; the one using the same mastery as AS pressing, the other (controlled by Rob Fabroni and Barry Dimanent) used the original full version for all tracks. Pressed from 1986 to use the international version of the release until 2002, when the deluxe version of the two discs was released by Universal replacing all songs with their respective album versions (except for "No Woman, No Cry," which is the full version of "Live!" album) and includes two additional songs from the cassette release as a bonus track. The version was released separately as part of the " The Definitive Remasters " series.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary, the compilation was re-released (as "The Definitive Remaster " form) in two formats:
- Set three colors (red, yellow, green) 180g vinyl set
- A set of CD/Blu-ray audio 5.1; Blu-ray discs contain a studio version of "No Woman, No Crying" and previously picked up unknown alternatives from "Easy Skanking" and "Punky Reggae Party."
