Sonicflood (sometimes referred to as SONICFLOOd ) is an American contemporary music band from Nashville, Tennessee, which is touted as "The Father of the Modern Worship Movement". The group takes the name "Sonicflood", a reference to the line in the Book of Revelation, chapter 19, verse 6.
They released their debut album at a time when such music gained commercial success in the Christian music industry. In turn, their success feeds the genre of contemporary worship music, extending its appeal.
Since their debut, Sonicflood has sold nearly two million albums, and has produced the highest hits of praise (often cover) including "I Can Sing Love Forever", "Resonate", "Cry Holy" and "Here I am to Worship". In the early years of their existence, the group received two Dove awards and three further nominations, and one Grammy nomination. In addition, their eponymous debut took Gold status, and spawned some number 1 hits on Christian radio.

History
As Zilch
The band was originally formed in 1997 under the name, "Zilch". Zilch began as a DC Talk travel band, shaping into independent acting in 1997. Early recording footage was vocalist and guitarist Mark Lee Townsend, keyboardist Jason Halbert, bassist Otto "Sugar Bear" Price and drummer Rick May. Zilch released his first album, Platinum , in 1997 on Gotee Records but received little publicity. Platinum features a modern rock sound with a clear influence of 1960s pop music. One review mentions that his voice is similar to All Star United, and the other for Weezer plus pop and hip-hop influences.
This release is not the praise and worship of music, which the band will soon be known for, but contains more standard fare, including songs on topics like friendship, self-satisfaction, and priority. Overall, the band is marked as not taking themselves seriously, for example by including a Schoolhouse Rock cover! the song "My Hero, Zero", and is reflected in the band name, taken from a song of the same name written by The Monkees. Likewise, the album title is a game on their own status as a musician. "We appoint our own superstar with the album 'Platinum'..." Jason Halbert told one reporter, "That basically means Zilch!" Their song "In The Sky" was the answer to two hits at the time, Joan Osborne "One of Us" and Dishwalla "Counting the Blue Car", opens with a line, "... he asks if God is just as dirty as us, maybe something is missing," the second verse begins, "Let me tell you all the thinking I'm about God, because I just met him this morning... "
In early 1998 Mark Lee Townsend resigned from the role of lead singer and was replaced by then independent artist Jeff Deyo. Zilch will play the show, sometimes ending with a song of praise like "God, I Lift Your Name in High Places." The band found that playing such music changed the nature of audience interaction with their appearance, in a positive way.
Sonicflood Formation
Their labels take notice too, and ultimately suggest that the band consider recording praise and worship albums. This idea initially met with resistance from the band, which is already in the process of recording a second album titled Millennium . Eventually, the band agreed to perform praise and worship as a one-off, with no intention of continuing outside of a single album. However, as the recording progressed, the band decided to commit to the project. Jeff Deyo marks the band's name change as a sign of that commitment, saying that it is similar to the story of Paul's conversion from Tarsus.
Sonicflood began turning personnel making changes that would have a major impact on the band's future. Otto Price plays bass, produced together, and shared some writing credits on the album, but did not want to continue on tour, out of the core band. The price will eventually take place of the vice president of A & amp; R in Word Records. Mark Lee Townsend did the same thing, and enrolled in Sonicflood as an additional musician. Already an industry veteran, he went on to produce albums for The OC Supertones and Relient K, among others. In addition, he intends to release a second project under the name Zilch. However, despite periodic status updates during the first decade of the 2000s, the album has not been released yet.
Seven Day guitarist Jesus Dwayne Larring and drummer Aaron Blanton became members of the band, bringing their numbers to four. The original formation, in which the album Sonicflood was recorded consisted of Deyo, Halbert, Blanton, and Larring. Heil, then bass guitarist Big Tent Revival, took over the bass guitar in early 1999 and joined as a founding member before Sonicflood started the tour, but did not appear on the album.
Sonicflood Sonicflood and Sonicpraise Sonicflood released their debut album in February 1999. With this release, the band became one of the many bands in the growing music and worship genre, joining Delirious, Hillsong, Matt Redman, and others at a time when the genre was fast - growing part of the Christian music industry. The album landed on the Billboard charts including Billboard 200, the top 10 Christian album, and peaked at No. 2. 2 on the Heatseekers Chart. The band will remain in the top 10 of the Christian album charts until 2000 (for more than 72 weeks), becoming the most famous American band of praise and praise.
This release has two hit No. 1 on Christian radio, "I Want to Know You" (written by Andy Park) and "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever" (written by Martin Smith of Delirious?), And some lower charting singles.. The latter is probably their most famous song, and will get an additional Dove nomination the following year, in the "Song of the Year" category. The band garnered three Dove Award nominations in 2000 and one win, for "Praise and Worship Album". In 1999 the band recorded a live album at the Flevo Festival but featured content from other shows as well. Originally scheduled for the final 2000 release, changes in the band's structure will delay the album until 2001..
In the fall of 1999 the band toured with speaker Josh McDowell. The next spring Sonicflood joins the "Love Liberty Disco Tour", directed by Newsboys. The band also recorded a song for the compilation album City on a Hill with Peter Furler as lead vocalist. This release will take the Dove award for "Special Event Album" in 2001, although at the time the band did not have any resemblance to the one that recorded it.
Sonicflood was dissolved throughout the year 2000, citing differences over the band's vision. The problems that cause the band to dissolve include whether the band should return to more conventional musical tension or continue to compliment and worship music and how the band should sound. This was complicated by the fact that the band lacked true leadership; the original setting is the same ownership for each member. In corporates, this means that each has the same sound to the band. In the fall of that year, all the members except Heil had left. Heil took on the role of vocalist and began recruiting new members to fulfill the band's tour obligations and continue to make worship and music worship.
In spring 2001, Sonicflood has gone Gold and the legal hassle surrounding the band's name and ownership has been resolved. Sonicpraise , a live album recorded in 1999, was finally released. Similar to their eponymous album, it featured a mix of songs from Sonicflood and a new cover written by other praise artists. The album earned a Grammy nomination for "Best Gospel Rock Album", and the band is on the Billboard charts once again.
Under Rick Heil
With Heil at the helm, the band recruited Tom Michael, Todd Shay and Brett Vargason, each of whom was a member of John Cox Band and David "Moose" Alan, who played the keyboard for the Big Tent Revival. The band changed the record label, leaving Gotee and partnering with the newly formed INO Records. Heil began developing the album of praise and worship, designing it similar to the 1999 band's release, with a mix of original cover and song. The results of this effort became Resonate , released in the fall of 2001. Their release in 2003 Cry Holy took an acoustic rock sound, drawing comparisons with Chris Tomlin.
After the 2005 release This generation , the band toured internationally, recording their performances along the way. While in Turkey Muslim-dominated the band filmed a music video for their song "This Generation". Sonicflood toured with sponsorship by Compassion International in Spring 2006, and went on tour in Europe in Summer. The recording was released as a Glimpse: Worldwide Direct Record in the fall of 2006. In support for Glimpse, the band embarked on a United States tour, sponsored by the South International Baptist Mission Commission Convention, and includes missionaries as speakers.
In 2007, the band appeared on the Trinity Broadcasting Network's God Praise to promote their performances at sponsored World Harvest Church events. Bandleader Rick Heil reappeared the following year, to support A Heart Like Yours, telling the story of his recovery from Crohn Heil disease contracted the disease at the age of 11, and suffered for 26 years. year. The case of Heil is very bad and, he is told, can not be cured, leaving his only hope to heal miracles. Although Heil does not claim to have experienced the magic of per se , he says that "Jesus is the great healer... healer of the heart, soul, mind."
The band started to record "A Heart Like Yours" in 2008 which has a rock-dominated sound and piano. Then, in 2009 recorded a Christmas album, "When Love First Cried."
In 2009, guitarist Phil Baquie received notice about the activation of his military unit, and orders to spread to Afghanistan in October as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Although not yet a US citizen, Baquie is in military reserves, which is a possible path to citizenship. Baquie's last album appearance was on their 2009 Christmas album, When Love First Cried .
