The Turkish Angora (Turkish: Ankara kedisi , 'Ankara cat') is a type of domestic cat. The Turkish Angoras are one of the ancient, native, ancient cat races from central Turkey, in the Ankara region. History

Angora and Persia seem to be connected. Persian cats are developed from mutations of Turkish angora by fans of English and American cats. Another rare but known breed of genetic disease is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a heart condition usually found between the ages of 2 and 6, with men more often affected and more severe than females. In Maine Coon, HCM is considered an autosomal dominant gene and researchers are working to identify markers for this disease. However, in Angora Turkey, the disease has not been studied in length primarily because of the scarcity of events, and the possible outcome of different gene mutations, with different gene locations than the Maine Coon cat. HCM also affects many other breeds, including Ragdolls, Persians, and Bengals.
Genetics
A genetic study of cats breeds (using DNA taken from cats married in the US and Europe) and randomly raised populations around the world show Van Turk as a distinct population of Turkish Angora despite their geographical relationship. The Turkish Angora are grouped with Egyptian Mau and Tunisian cats reared at random. Cats reared randomly in Turkey are grouped with cats reared by random by Israel, while Van Turk is grouped with cats that are randomly cultivated. However, UC Davis only studies American cats who prefer to register Angoras rather than the "authentic" Turkish Angora or Ankara Kedisi directly from Turkey, and especially from the Ankara Zoo.
A genetic study published in 2012 includes several cats imported from Turkey. The study found that Turkish Turkey versus Angora Turkish originating from the United States (...) was solved as a separate breed population. Angora Turkish Americans are categorized as breeds of cats reared randomly in Europe, and cats imported from Turkey are assigned to the Eastern Mediterranean? group.
