" Can I Have This Kiss Forever" is a 2000 duet performed by American singer Whitney Houston and Spanish recording artist Enrique Iglesias. It was written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster, Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling. The song first appeared in the English debut album Iglesias Enrique (1999) as a slow Latin-style ballad. It achieved success in many countries, including Switzerland and the Netherlands, where it topped the charts.

Background and release

Houston and Iglesias never actually met directly because they recorded the song in a separate studio: Houston in Hamburg, Germany, and Iglesias in Los Angeles, California. The two eventually met in the studio when the song was re-recorded for a single release by Metro (the same team responsible for previous hits Iglesias, "Bailamos" and "Rhythm Divine"), produced a new version of the middle of the tempo. The new version was released by the Houston label as the first US single (second UK single) from Whitney's greatest-hits collection of The Greatest Hits (2000). For Iglesias, the song is the fourth single from her album Enrique . It's also available in the Greatest Hits compilation released in 2008.

"Clive Davis and I are talking about this song that I heard the demo and loved, and he said, 'Why do not you do it with Whitney?' So we did it, and it was fantastic Clive was very good about letting Whitney sing with me - I'm not even an Arista artist, "Iglesias explained.

Critical reception

Billboard writes that "While the pair of pop/R & B B Houston superstars with a blooming Latin sensation, Iglesias may seem a surprising combination at first, going once through the Spanish midtempo crowded with pleaded guitar and magic crowds it's very clear, Iglesias, of course, right at home, sounds sensual and windy as always, while Houston provides a controlled appearance that perfectly captures the romantic moments made just for champagne and dancing. "JD Considine of The Baltimore Sun feel that "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" is a song in which Houston "is trying desperately to surpass Enrique Iglesias" LA Weekly in his review for Whitney: The Greatest Hits commented that "Iglesias pants and sigh through his lines, trying to burn but groan instead" Jim Farber of the New York Daily News wrote that the song " cynical naan from Latin crossover craze. " Elysa Gardner of Vibe says that the song is "winding" and "flavored latin" and that "Houston easily beat" the duet partner. Christine Galera from The Orlando Sentinel argues that Houston's "bad duet" with Enrique Iglesias "sounds like every other Iglesias single I've ever heard". NME writing refers to the title song that there may be "hygiene issues" but "if it stops their singing, then it should be encouraged - though, because someone seems to strangle Enrique here, yet he still plows, eternal kisses with Whitney probably not going to be a barrier to the song ". The review continues negatively by stating that "it's rather disappointing to hear that this stained and sickly Latin tear is where he is in music," "we get the bland drops of romantic gormlessness and cliches as deep as the river, as tall as a mountain, that you should really serotonin-deficiency to find that affect ". Digital Spy in his review for the Greatest Hits collection Iglesias wrote that Iglesias has recorded a "really excited" duet, "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" to be the "worst performer".

In 2012, it was placed at number 1 on the Idolator list of "Whitney Houston's 10 Best Songs of Lost Radio" because "this slow burning mid-tempo number is overflowing with sexy vibrations, thanks to duetist duo Enrique Iglesias and a simple but-effective remix by hot-heat production team of Metro ".
