- July 17 - The Russian version of Conway Twitty's 1970 song, "Hello Darlin" is screened and broadcasted worldwide as part of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. The song, which in Russian is called "Privet Radost," is a "goodwill gesture" from the Apollo crew to the Soyuz crew of the Soviet Union. - August 8 - While climbing the mountain at Ajax Mountain, Montana, Hank Williams, Jr. involved in catastrophic accidents. He fell nearly 500 feet and was badly wounded, suffering a lot of facial and head injuries. His recovery took almost two years, during which time he experienced great cosmetics - and musical - improvements.
- October - The decisive moment in the recent debate on what defines country music - and the respective vision of the genre - is present at the Country Music Association award. Charlie Rich, the 1974 CMA Entertainer of the Year, was chosen to name the new Entertainer of the Year. As he opened the envelope, he pulled out his cigarette lighter, lit a piece of paper with the name of the burning winner, and in disgust announced the winner: "My best friend, John Denver!" Denver, who was absent, was humbled at his appreciation (but did not know until later about Rich's actions).
