Morna Anne Murray (born June 20, 1945), known professionally as Anne Murray , is a Canadian singer in pop, country and contemporary music whose album has sold more than 55 million copies worldwide.
Murray was the first Canadian female solo singer to reach No. 1. 1 on the US charts, as well as the first to get a Golden record for one of his typical songs, "Snowbird" (1970). He is often cited as the man who paved the way for other Canadian international success stories such as k.d. lang, CÃÆ' à © line Dion, and Shania Twain. She was also the first female and the first Canadian to win the 1984 Country Music Association Awards for her 1983 Gold-plus album.
Murray has received four Grammys, a record of 24 Junos, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, and three Canadian Country Music Association Awards. She has been inducted into the Canadian Country Hall of Fame, the Juno Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame. He is a member of the Walkway of Stars Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, and has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles and at the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto.
In 2011, Billboard ranked 10th on the list of 50 Greatest Adult Adult Artists ever.

Morna Anne Murray was born in the coal mine town of Springhill, Nova Scotia. His father, James Carson Murray, was a city doctor. One of his earliest appearances was the song "Ave Maria" on his high school graduation in 1962. After high school, Murray studied at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax for one year. He then studied Physical Education at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. After receiving his degree in 1966 he taught physical education at a high school in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, for a year.

Initial years
In 1965, Murray appeared on the notes of the New Brunswick University student project "The Groove" (500 pressed). She sang two songs on the recording - "Unchained Melody" and "Little Bit of Soap". On the label name misspelled "Anne Murry". While there, he was encouraged to audition for the various musicals of the 1960s CBC Singalong Jubilee, but was not offered a singing position. Two years later he received a call from Singalong Jubilee co-host and associate producer Bill Langstroth, and was asked to return for a second audition. After the second audition, Murray was chosen for the show.
After summer singing at local venues throughout the Maritimes, Murray began teaching physical education at a high school in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. After a year of teaching, she was offered a place on the Let's Go television show, and returned to Singalong Jubilee . As a regular member of the "Singalong Jubilee" player, Murray appeared on Singalong Jubilee Vol. III soundtrack and Album Our Family Album - The Singalong Jubilee Cast released by Arc Records. The musical director of the show, Brian Ahern, advised Murray that he should move to Toronto and record a solo album. His first album, What About Me , was produced by Ahern in Toronto and released in 1968 on the Arc label.
Success
Anne Murray's debut album is on the Canadian Arc label, titled What About Me (US Arc 782). The lead single, the title piece, was written by Scott McKenzie and was a big enough Canadian radio hit. The project was produced by Brian Ahern, and covered songs by Joni Mitchell, Ken Tobias, and John Denver. After a year of running in the Arc, Murray switched to Capitol Records in 1969 to record his second album, This Way Is My Way, released in the fall of 1969. It featured the singles that were released. his career, "Snowbird", which became No. hit. 1 in Canada. "Snowbird" became a surprise hit on the US charts as well, reaching No. 1. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970. It was also the first of eight hits of Adult Adult No. 1. "Snowbird" is the first Gold record ever given to Canadian artists in the United States (RIAA Certified Gold on November 16, 1970). As one of the most successful female artists of the time, she became a demand for several television appearances in Canada and the United States, eventually becoming a regular on the US television series. After the success of "Snowbird", he has a number of subsequent singles that map pop and country simultaneously. During the 1970s and 1980s, his hit included Kenny Loggins's "Danny Song" (1972) (peaked at No. 7 on Hot 100) and "A Love Song" (1973); "He Thinks I Still Care" and the Beatles' Top 10 covers "You Will not See Me" (1974); he's most famous on the Hot 100 hit "You Needed Me" (1978) - though, the greatest hit of his career (and his personal favorite) peaked in No. country. 4 and No. 3 AC; "I Just Fall In Love Again", "The Shadow of the Moon Light", and "Broken Hearted Me" (1979); remake of The Beatles "I'm I'm Just To Dance With You" (1980), which reached # 64 on Hot 100 and # 23 in the Country charts; the rise of The Monkees' 1967 No. 1 hit "Daydream Believer" and "Could I Have This Dance" from the movie soundtrack Urban Cowboy (1980); "Blessed Are the Believers" (1981); "Another Sleepless Night" (1982); "A Little Good News" (1983); 1984 "Just Another Woman in Love" and "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" (duet with Dave Loggins from 1974 "Please Come to Boston" Kenny Loggins fame and cousin); and "Time, Do not Run Out On Me" (1985).
He performed "O Canada" in the first American League baseball game to be played in Canada on April 7, 1977, when the Toronto Blue Jays played the Chicago White Sox at the Exhibition Stadium. He repeated the Canadian anthem before Game 3 of the 1992 World Series on SkyDome. After the last game at Maple Leaf Gardens, he ended the closing ceremony by singing "The Maple Leaf Forever" in the middle of ice wearing Toronto Maple Leafs jersey.
Murray is a celebrity company spokesperson for The Bay, and he also advertises and sings corporate jingles (Can You Count on the Commerce) for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).
Murray's last hot hit 100 is "Now and Forever (You and Me)" from 1986; it is also No. 1 last on the US and Canadian charts. His final charting single in the US was "Everyday" in 1991, which appeared on the Billboard's Country Singles chart, and his latest single charting in Canada was "What a Wonderful World" in 2000.
1990s to present
In 1996, Murray joined the new manager, Bruce Allen. He recorded his first live album in 1997 and in 1999, he released What a Wonderful World , a platinum inspirational album, which goes to No. 1. 1 Contemporary Christian, No. 4 Countries and Nos. 38 pop. He released Country Croonin in 2002, a follow-up to a successful 1993 album, Croonin '. In 2004, she released I'd Be Seeing You in Canada alone, featuring a collection of songs from the early 20th century to the mid-1940s. The American version, entitled All of Me , featured a bonus disc with many hit singles, followed in 2005. The album is dedicated to his friend Cynthia McReynolds who died of cancer.

Anne Murray Duets: Friends and Legends are recorded in four cities - Toronto, Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. According to Billboard, the album reached No. 1. 2 on the Canadian pop album charts and has been certified Double Platinum in Canada after just two months, representing sales of over 200,000 units. The album is the second highest debutant CD on the Billboard Top 200 album chart for the week ending February 2, 2008. It enters the chart at No. 2. 42, making it a US CD album with the highest chart since 1999 What a Wonderful World , which reached No. 1. 38 at the Top 200 and certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Also for the week ending February 2, 2008, the CD debuted at No. 1. 8 on the Top Countries Billboard album Billboard ' and at No. 3 on the Top Internet Albums chart. On October 10, 2007, Murray announced that he would embark on his last big tour. She toured in February and March 2008 in the US on a "Coast-to-Coast - One Last Time" tour followed by a run in April and May in Canada. Murray's last general concert was held at Sony Center in Toronto on May 23, 2008.
On August 25, 2008, Murray appeared on the popular Canadian Idol TV program as a mentor. On February 12, 2010, Murray was one of eight Canadians carrying an Olympic flag during the opening ceremony of the XXI Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Personal life
In 2009, Murray released his autobiography, All of Me , and embarked on a 15-city signing tour, starting in Nashville on October 27, 2009, and ending in Ottawa on November 24, 2009. The Tour also included a special interview In Conversation with Michael Posner at the International Writers Festival in Toronto on October 30, 2009.
Marriage and children
Murray married Bill Langstroth, music producer and longtime host of Singalong Jubilee, in 1975. They had two children - William (born 1976) and Dawn (born 1979), a singer-songwriter and artist who has recorded with his mother several times, including the "Let There Be Love" duet in 1999 for Murray's album What's Wonderful World. Murray and Dawn featured in a mother-daughter duet from "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" on hit Murray 2008 U.S. CD (released in late 2007 in Canada), Anne Murray Duets: Friends & amp; Legend . Murray and Langstroth split up in 1997 and divorced the following year. Langstroth died in May 2013.
In January 1998, Anne and Dawn performed at a charity concert for Sheena's Place, an eating disorder treatment center in Toronto. Both have spoken openly about Dawn's struggle with anorexia nervosa, which developed when he was 10 years old. Dawn has since sought treatment and continues to pursue a career in music.
Philanthropy
Murray always maintains links with his hometown, Springhill, Nova Scotia, which is located about an hour east of Moncton, New Brunswick, and two hours north of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Anne Murray Center, located in Springhill, opened on July 28, 1989 and stores a collection of memorabilia from both her personal life and her professional career in a series of exhibitions. A registered Canadian charity, the center aims to foster tourism in the area and promote awareness of Nova Scotia and Canadian music. All income generated from its operations is used to provide employment for local communities and for its sustainable maintenance.
Murray was involved in the construction of the Dr. Community Center. Carson and Marion Murray in Springhill, Nova Scotia. He served as honorary chairman of the fundraising campaign to replace the fallen city arena after the peewee hockey game in 2002. Named for his parents, Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center sport NHL ice sheets with seating for up to 800 people, walkways, multipurpose rooms, community rooms with seating for up to 300 people, and a fitness center. Dr. Community Center Carson and Marion Murray have been an integral part of the Springhill community since it opened on 15 September 2004.
Murray has also been involved in various charitable organizations. In addition to being the National Honorary Chair of the Canadian Save The Children Fund, he has served as a spokeswoman for many charities throughout his career - most recently Colon Cancer Canada. On May 20, 2009, Colon Cancer Canada launched its first Anne Murray Charity Golf Classic. More than $ 150,000 was raised through the event.
Murray has been a public supporter of Canadian Natureist and naturalist David Suzuki's Nature Challenge.
Hobbies
Old golf enthusiast, Murray made history in October 2003 at Turning Stone Resort & amp; Casino in Verona, New York, becoming the first woman to score a hole-in-one on the 108-yard, par 3, 17th hole at the Kaluhyat Golf Club. On May 11, 2007, Golf For Women magazine named Murray the world's best female celebrity golfer, recording 11 handicaps.

In 1995, Murray received the Governor-General's Performing Arts Award for Artistic Lifetime Achievement, Canada's highest award in performing arts.
Murray is ranked No. 1. 24 in Country Music Television 40 Largest Women of Country Music in 2002.
Murray is a Canadian Order Friend, the second highest honor that can be awarded to Canadian civilians. He was the recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia in his inaugural year.
In 2006, Canadian Songwriter Hall of Fame picked him and Leonard Cohen as recipients of the Legacy Award for their contributions and supported the Canadian songwriting industry. Murray is recognized for his support of Canadian songwriters, through his performances and recordings.
On 29 June 2007, the Canada Post published a limited edition Anne Murray stamp. He is recognized along with three other Canadian recording artists: Paul Anka, Gordon Lightfoot, and Joni Mitchell.
On May 20, 2016, Anne Murray was awarded an honorary degree by Mount Saint Vincent University.
