So False, That's Right is the second studio album by American rock band All Time Low. Following an unsuccessful showcase for Triggered by Ramen, Hopeless Records signed All Time Low in March 2006. They released the EP, Put Up or Shut Up, through a label in July of that year. After collecting 12 songs in January 2007, the band demonstrated some of them for Paul Leavitt. The group began recording So Wrong, It's Right in April at SOMD Studios in Beltsville, Maryland with producers Leavitt and Matt Squire. The band wrote five additional songs while in the studio. After an acoustic tour in June, the band participated in the Warped Tour, and "Dear Mary, Count Me In" is available for streaming. After delivering the music video for "Six Feet Under the Stars", So Wrong, It's Right was released on September 25th. The band spent the next three months supporting the Boys Like Girls on their US tour.

In early 2008, a music video was released for "Dear Mary, Count Me In", which was followed by appearances at Soundwave festivals in Australia in February and March. The group participated in the Alternative Press Tour, and appeared at The Bamboozle festival and Give it a Name, between March and May. "Dear Maria, Count Me In" was released to the radio around this time. In July, the band went on a United States tour, before taking part in the Warped Tour. The deluxe edition of the album followed in late July, featuring acoustic versions of songs and music videos. In early August, a music video was shown for "Poppin Champagne '" on MTV's FNMTV . Later that month, the band took part in the MVT Video Music Awards Tour that featured at several Six Flags locations, before embarking on a US tour in October and November. "Poppin 'Champagne" was released as a single in December featuring two different versions of the song.

All Time Low released their debut album The Party Scene in July 2005 through the independent label Emerald Moon Records. In December, it was announced that the band was no longer signed, but attracted the attention of a number of record labels. In late 2006, the band performed a showcase for John Janick the founder of the record label Fueled by Ramen. They were not signed because Cute Is What We Aim For was recently taken up by the label, which was not in a position to sign another band at the time. On March 28, 2006, it was announced that All Time Low had signed a contract with Hopeless Records. The band was brought to the attention of the label by fellow band tour Amber Pacific. After high school graduation, the members focus on the full-time group, and release the Put Up or Shut Up EP in July.

Vocalist/guitarist Alex Gaskarth said the EP helped the band get new fans, while at the same time allowing them to progress in music. Gaskarth also said that the group did not want to "feel pressured or in a hurry" to make the album. Choosing to release EP instead "makes the most sense to what extent we are and what we want to do". To support his release, the group appeared on a number of tour dates and toured with Amber Pacific. Gaskarth revealed the band aims to enter the recording studio in winter. In December, the group performed a number of performances. On one of these, they played three new songs: "Let It Roll", "Dear Mary, Count Me In" and "Remembering Sunday".

Composition and recording

In January 2007, the band said they had made 12 songs for their second album. Around this time, the group demonstrates several songs for Paul Leavitt. The band began recording on April 17, 2007, with producers Matt Squire and Leavitt at SOMD Studios in Beltsville, Maryland. The group previously worked with Leavitt on The Party Scene (2005) and Put Up or Shut Up EP. According to studio updates posted on April 20, guitarist Jack Barakat revealed the band in pre-production. The group listened to the demos they had previously recorded, choosing and choosing which songs they would work on, as well as the parts of other songs they wanted to keep. Gaskarth said the band went into the studio with about 15 songs, before the numbers were trimmed to three. They then wrote a lot of material in the studio.

In another studio update posted on April 27, Barakat mentioned they had narrowed down the songs that would make the album. Gaskarth said the group needed to write more songs, which resulted in the creation of five additional songs. One of these songs is "Come One, Come All", a song that Gaskarth strongly dislikes in retrospect. Barakat, who shares Gaskarth's view of the song, adds that other songs of the same time will work better in the notes. Barakat mentioned 11 will be on the album, and that they potentially add "... [song] else here or there if everything goes as planned". Barakat said the band members "feel that... we have grown up as a musician," with the help of Squire and Leavitt. Squire teamed up with Gaskarth in creating the melody, while Leavitt worked with drummer Rian Dawson creating, as Barakat described them, "beats drum beastly".

Barakat mentioned that the drum and bass parts were "fairly straight forward and fast" because Dawson and bassist Zack Merrick were "solid" on their respective instruments. While bass is being recorded, Squire works with Gaskarth on vocals. Squire and Leavitt engineered the recording, while Squire mixed it up. Ted Jensen mastered the recording in Sterling Sound. All songs on the album are written by All Time Low with lyrics by Gaskarth. Sam Hollander and Dave Katz provide additional writing and lyrics on "Holly (Would You Turn Me On?)". Juliet Simms of Automatic Loveletter gives extra vocals on "Remembering Sunday". Group, along with Malicious Summer, Matt Flyzik, Dan Dori, Jason Park and Alex Grieco featuring gang vocals.

Reception

Critical response

AbsolutePunk reviewer Rohan Kohli said that the album was "a bit of a setback on the pop punk glory days," filled with "young, summer-y, hook-laden songs." However, he said that "sometimes suffers from dubious lyrics," as well as mentioning the voice of Gaskarth that is "sometimes covered by small studio tricks". In a brief review, AllMusic says that the band provides a "sharp and sensitive set of tones". It also mentions that the group combines "sincerity-on-arm without using histrionic emo". Alternative Addiction says the album was "basically pop-punk by the book, but who objected when it's fun?", and described Gaskarth's voice as "pretty much standard for pop-punk today". Tristan Staddon of Alternative Press writes that the band created "perfect pop-punk songs" made for "sunny days on the beach/moon and at night under the stars". He notes that the album contains "less variation... than you find in a flannel factory," although this is "rarely important because All Time Low's sweet candy is always delicious".

Hannah Eklund from AltSounds called the album "an exciting, passionate, and vibrant masterpiece". He praised the album "a very nice vibration," which makes you "smile". In addition, he notes that music "is full of passion and excitement, making them like a band that is easy to be liked". Melodic Tom Spinelli compares the album with Put Up or Shut Up EP, calling it "full of energy and life". He noted that the album featured "a mature step forward in the" pop punk genre. "In a negative review for Punknews.org, mikexdude said the group created" an uninspired disk without any authenticity with So False, That's True . "Approximately half way into the album, he said the band" managed to remove all the captivating qualities left of the genre. Is this really what pop-punk is now? Because if yes, you can count me. "
