Plot

Stacy (Krysten Ritter) and Goody (Alicia Silverstone), are two socialist vampires who live a good life in New York City. Goody submitted in 1841 by the vampire Ciccerus (Sigourney Weaver). He struggled with his life as a vampire until Stacy was rejected by Ciccerus in the early 1990s. Goody was able to teach Stacy how to use her new abilities, such as defending herself in mice blood, but keeping her true age secret as she was afraid to be seen as old.

While at a vampire meeting, Stacy explains how she struggles with drug addiction as a human, but is now happy to be a vampire giving her a second chance. Goody also found that if their Ciccerus maker or "parent" were killed, they would return to human age. While working at the hospital as an exterminator, Goody meets his ex-girlfriend, Danny (Richard Lewis), whom he has not seen since the 1960s. They reconnect on the pretext that she is the daughter of Goody, but Danny finally knows the truth when she sees her bite to another man to prevent a stroke. When he asks why he left her, Goody explains that even though he loves him, he does not want to stand in the way of finding someone who can really build a life with him.

Sub-plots about vampires sought by the government through patriot acts using their electronic devices caused panic to an anonymous group of vampires. Goody along with their vampire-wannabe buddies, Renemont and Danny (now a lawyer) who came to the technology came up with a plan to remove and change all the information about all the vampires in the New York area, who succeeded using a solar eclipse. That success causes a feast for human and non-human feeders, and some old competition must be postponed. But it was all in vain because Ciccerus was absent and slaughtered the entire seating of the restaurant, because he was a psychotic monster.

Meanwhile, Stacy started a relationship with a young student named Joey (Dan Stevens). It was soon revealed that Joey was the son of the famous vampire killer. Van Helsing (Wallace Shawn) who is in town to find and kill vampires. After spending the night at Joey's place, he saw Stacy crawling to the side of her apartment building to get home before sunrise. Despite her surprise, Joey accepts that Stacy is a vampire and two dating resumes. When Stacy begins to experience some strange vomiting, Goody finds that Stacy is actually pregnant, but the baby will not survive unless she becomes human again as described by Vlad Tepes. To kill Ciccerus they try to find out where his grave is, but Goody thanks the old show about answering the facts for money questions, figures that he has taken Ulysses Grant's grave because it is the one place in New York that has never been visited by whom even.

Goody told Stacy that they had to be human again to keep her pregnant, and both decided that while they were having fun like a vampire, "being young is getting older". Goody then go to Dr. Van Helsing to get his help in killing Ciccerus, with his advice that vampires can only be killed by sunlight or beheading. When asked why she wanted to be a vampire, Goody explained that her husband and sister had been killed during the cholera epidemic, and that she had to stay alive to protect her two children. Van Helsing then asked his assistant to find a living descendant of Goody; most of them are doctors, teachers, and politicians. The girls work closely with Joey and Dr. Van Helsing to track down Ciccerus and after the struggle, they end up killing Ciccerus to keep Stacy babysitting her baby and having a future with Joey. Stacy looked the same relative despite being forty, but Goody quickly aged into an old woman. Revealing his true age, Goody accompanies Joey and Stacy to Times Square where Goody recalls about his life. At sunrise, he crumbled to ashes.

Several years later, Stacy and Joey appeared at Dr's home. Van Helsing to pick up their little princess, whom they named after Goody. When Van Helsing played with his grandchildren, he noticed that the little girl had a set of vampire fangs.

Casting

Alicia Silverstone, who has starred in Heckerling's Clueless, was offered a role after Heckerling came to see her on Time Stands Still. Krysten Ritter was Heckerling's first choice for Stacy's role. Michelle Pfeiffer initially offered Ciccerus the role but had to reject it due to scheduling commitments. The pizza delivery character of Taylor Negron is a nod to Heckerling's previous Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where Negron's character gives Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) pizza to the high school classroom.
