" My Love " is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Justin Timberlake for his second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006). The album was released on October 24, 2006, by Jive Records as the second single from the album. The song features American rapper, T.I. and co-written by Timberlake, Timbaland, Nate "Danja" Hills, and T.I., and produced by Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja.

Timberlake revealed that the songwriting process takes time for pictures and execution. He also stated that "My love" is less about marriage and a simpler approach to love. The song has a synthesizer chord with slow taps and includes beatboxing, percussion, and staccato sound. Timberlake described the track as a "rock-techno ballad".

The track reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Timberlake's second consecutive single to do so. Among other Billboard magazine graphics, it also topped Topstream Top 40, Hot Dance Airplay, and Hot Digital Songs charts. Internationally, the single peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Timberlake's fourth single to do so. In New Zealand, the track peaked at number one for five consecutive weeks, to become Timberlake's number one number one.

Media Pitchfork named "My Love" as the number one song of 2006. Many say that the song is a sequel to the 2002 Timberlake song "Cry Me a River". The song won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2007 Grammy Awards. "My Love" also won Timberlake as Male Artist of the Year and Best Choreography in Video at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

In December 2005, Timberlake began working on a second album, FutureSex/LoveSounds , a follow-up for Justified (2002). Within three weeks, "My Love" was one of the few songs recorded. In September 2006, Timberlake told Rolling Stone that the song was a "hip-hop ballad" and that the making process "took two hours to imagine and execute". While promoting the album in an interview with MTV News, Timberlake revealed that the second half of the album (including "My Love") focused on the love anthem. In another interview, he revealed that "My love" is "the contradiction of sound. You have this opera thing. If you take all the staccato sounds, the essence of the song is the ballad, but the way it is immortalized under the vowel, it becomes a percussion ballad. "

In a discussion of T.I's participation on the track, Timberlake said: "The second hook finished and I said, 'Oh, a rapper would sound good for this.'" Timbaland, who co-wrote and produced the song, approved the idea and suggested T.I. Timberlake approved of the idea, though he doubted T.I. will say yes, and say that he is grateful that T.I. agree to take part.

Timberlake revealed in 2013 that he originally asked the rapper JAY-Z (Who he would collaborate extensively in his later career) to appear on the track before T.I. "I want to do a recording with him on FutureSex/LoveSounds ..." he explains "... and he at that time had made a note with Beyoncà © ©, it was' DÃÆ'  © jÃÆ' Vu. 'And he said - respectfully, I can not knock him for saying like I have this one feature, I think he is working on his own music too so he does not want too much stuff And I say, "I really respect that. I certainly will not go into any household. It's your wife. "But the note is 'My Love.' And that's an exciting blessing in disguise because I think Tip for that note - I mean the phrase is phenomenal. "

Music and lyrics

"My Love" is an R & amp; B and hip hop ballad. The song is composed in key E minor, with the E-minor-B-minor-A-minor chord. This is set in the time signature of the time along with 121 beats per minute. The music begins with a stuttering trance sounding syntheticizer, just after a stanza is sung in the chorus, "No other woman can take my love position". The word "love" is cut from the beginning. The song also includes Timbaland beatboxing and adds "toy sound", as well as Timberlake falsetto. This song features rap verses from rapper T.I. It also carries a slower beats, with an electro-southern hip-hop sound. The Guardian describes the song as "a love-filled ballad, pierced with dark emotion", while MTV News described the tap as "slow and cute." Ben Williams magazine from New York writes that he has "poked techno riffs, voices exploding together, and a lamenting opera singer". Alexis Petridis of The Guardian says that the single is "a mob moving from rave synthesizers and slow taps". Jacqui Swift from The Sun writes that the song "begins with a loud percussion sound before it launches into the chorus over and over over and over again".

In July 2006, The Observer Music Monthly interviewed Timberlake and stated that the song was "practically album 'Cry Me a River'." In response, Timberlake said, "It's similar. You're back to Aaliyah's biggest note, 'Are You That Somebody' - it's similar to that too because it's a percussion ballad." When asked about the lyrics, "There is only one thing I need from you: say I do," to autobiography, he says no, adding that the line before that, "this ring here represents my heart", is about marriage and love. Timberlake states, "It's not about marriage, it's about a humble approach to love, nothing autobiographical, though it's obvious I have an interesting experience."

Williams stated that the song is "a clear sequel" to Timberlake's 2002 song "Cry Me a River". Martin Turenne from Georgia Straight interprets the background of the song as Timberlake lowers himself over bent knees, suggests a walk on the beach and asks, "Do you date me on a regular basis?". Dagny Salas from North by Northwestern considers it a more romantic song, about Timberlake confessing his love for a woman. Others argue that "My Love" is a marriage proposal.

Critical reception

In the album's The New York Times album review, Kelefa Sanneh critic wrote: "... 'My Love', a fancy collaboration with IT rappers Starting with 90 seconds 'prelude', a rhythmic pulse song with a little tone and melody rhythm, then the real thing sounds: chords synthesizers punctuated by a small burst of silence. "Sal Cinquemani from Slant Magazine writes that the song" mixes Bob's beatboxing skills with pride, with a colossal futuristic sync swing and crazy cartoon cheeriness , which repeats ad infinitum a la crying baby from Aaliyah 'Are You That Somebody?' ". Matthew Gasteier of the magazine Prefix notes that the song "may be a prominent victory here, with a deep-fading synt and a fading in-fade beat that may be the best of Timbaland". Lauren Murphy from entertainment.ie stated that the single "can not be denied fluid and showcases some of the nicest slo-mo effects around". Jonah Weiner of Blood magazine called the song "prominent" from the album and wrote that the single "... straddles the tempo of FutureSex and balladeering LoveSounds > part - one coos about dog love on stroboscopic, another saliva, and second trade piety on chorus ".

"My Love" was criticized for some of the lyrics and sounds featured. Sanneh reports that Timberlake "wasted his clunky pickup line" with the lyrics "If I said you were beautiful/Did you date me regularly?". Murphy contemplates that the song was "finally destroyed" by the strange "Frog-meet-Laughing-Ironmaning underlay". Emily Vaughan from North by the Northwestern commented that Timberlake claims to have traveled the world twice in "My Love" and "Damn Girl" and that she also "runs out of creative ways to say she wants you to go to bed with her ". Vaughan, however, is positive to "My Love", stating that the song, along with "What Goes Around.../... Comes Around", sounds very different from the rest of the album.

VH1 Emily Exton in the 2013 article said that in Timberlake's song "re-create mainstream pop music and increase its artistic credibility at the same time, this song is more futuristic than others." In an article on the Timberlake catalog in 2016, the Idolator staff declared the song "one of the basic texts of the PBR & B blast in 2010," also tracking cyborgs, slo-mo rave, and falsetto weak "This is the midpoint between the Aaliyah space futurism and the touch of Ginuwine, and the robo-blues that will emerge with 808s & Heartbreak ." They conclude that since the "broken" music becomes a chart-topper , it opens the door for artists like The Weeknd "to hit big with something as scary as" The Hills "almost a decade later."

Accolades

The song was chosen by Pitchfork Media as their number one song in 2006, as well as a track rating of 26 on "The Top 500 Tracks of the 2000s." "At the 49th Grammy Awards," My Love "won the Grammy Award in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category, which was covered by the Irish band The Coronas, and by the British group Klaxons at BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and included in the B-side of their song "It's Not Over Yet", which was released in June 2007. The Village Voice ' s Pazz & amp; Jop pollics' the yearly opinion voted "My Love" as the fourth best single of 2006. Timberlake "SexyBack" and TI "What You Know" were selected on the same poll at number seven and two, respectively.

Music video

The music video for "My Love" was directed by Paul Hunter and aired on October 23, 2006. This video includes an introduction to the song ("Let Me Talk to You"), which includes song producer, Timbaland and T.I features. This video combines background and black-and-white dance, choreographed as steps that are in tune with the beat of the song.

The video begins with "Let Me Talk to You" because the background is surrounded by the wrong fluorescent lighting, lights up and dies in a programmed pattern. It also starts with Timberlake and Timbaland chanting "hey" to each other. The video continued with Timberlake dancing with the beat of the song. Timbaland then began to sing the first verse of the song, which Timberlake later followed. This was soon followed by "My Love" playing; the first verse of the song, "Not another woman who can take my place", playing. Timberlake comes floating toward the camera, down the wrong fluorescent tube. After Timberlake stopped floating, he began to sing the main verse of the song, which the violin began floating around in circles gently around it, because "If I write you a symphony/Just to say how much you mean to me". The scene then changes with Timberlake and various dancers dance accordingly in the style of choreography. When Timberlake starts the second verse, "Now if I write a love letter to you/And make you smile at every word I write", pens and papers begin to fly. This then exceeds with Timberlake singing "This ring here represents my heart" with a ring spinning to the camera. T.I. then seen in the shot. T.I. began to tap the lines on the song. After T.I. finished his poetry, Timberlake was then seen dancing with a female back-up dancer. Although, as they continued to dance, the woman then left a shot, leaving Timberlake to dance to the end of the song. In the closing moments, the camera revolves around it, proving, conclusively, from every angle, that everyone has gone.

At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, Timberlake won the Best Male Artist of the Year to "Let Me Talk To You/My Love", "SexyBack", and "What Happened.../... Come Around". He, along with choreographers Blake Anthony and Marty Kudelka, won the Best Choreography in Video for "My Love".
